A Historian and His World : A Life of Christopher Dawson (Library of Conservative Thought)
Published in Hardcover by Transaction Pub (May, 1992)
Authors: Christina Scott and Christopher Dawson
Average review score:

inspiring biography
This book is a biography of the British historian Christopher Dawson, written by his daughter Christina. Dawson was an incredible scholar, and his writings are almost prophetic: some of his essays on world history are current today. His biography describes a complex man, a mystical experience that brought him to the Catholic Church, a life in the pursuit of knowledge that was never easy. He held an endowed chair at Harvard's Divinity School. I would reccomend this book for graduate students in the humanities, it can be very inspiring for any scholar-to-be.

I Shall Come Forth As Gold
Published in Paperback by Aslan Pub (April, 1997)
Authors: Peter, Rev. Church, Andrew Vidich, and Dawson Church
Average review score:

Riveting...I couldn't put it down!
This book chronicles the life and faith of a true man of God. I was inspired by the journey the Rev. Peter Church traveled from the time of his conversion to Christ, through his recovery from a near fatal accident in a South African gold mine and his ministry that has challenged and inspired many and still does today. If you want to read a good book and be blessed and inspired by the life of this present day "saint" you'll love I Shall Come Forth as Gold.

In the Middle Ages (Food and Feasts Series)
Published in Paperback by New Discovery (March, 1996)
Author: Imogen Dawson
Average review score:

A great book to learn more about the Middle Ages.
Though In the Middle Ages, part of the Food & Feastseries, is slated for a juvenile audience, I am sure that parents will enjoy reading over the material contained. The pictures perfectly complement the text. The book is slim, it will be sure to start an interest in medieval history.

An Intimate Loneliness: Supporting Bereaved Parents and Siblings (Facing Death)
Published in Hardcover by Open Univ Pr (June, 1900)
Authors: Gordon Riches and Pam Dawson
Average review score:

Loss of a Child or Sibling
This book is so packed with information, don't expect to finish it quickly. The loss that brings you to it may surface as you find yourself in the pages. Based on years of experience with bereaved indiviudals, the book stands alone as a resource for counselors and other professionals who work with the grieving. I particularly liked their exploration of the search for meaning following a loss, and the concept of resilience as being a positive factor to help in resolving loss.

Introduction to Classical Chinese
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (February, 1989)
Author: Raymond Dawson
Average review score:

An excellent textbook that requires real application.
I know of two books on Classical Chinese by Raymond Dawson:

1. An Introduction to Classical Chinese (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1968). Written by a Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, and comfortingly orthodox, the aim of this text is to introduce English-speaking students to the language of those important works of ancient Chinese literature which were written during the last centuries of the Chou (Zhou) period (4th and 3rd centuries B.C.). A selection of passages (in full-form printed graphs) from Mencius, Mo-tzu, Chuang-tzu, Kuo-yu, and the Tso-chuan, are followed by detailed grammatical analysis. The book ends with translations of the earlier passages, and with a full vocabulary. This is a textbook from England which demands real application. Excellent, and highly recommended.

2. A New Introduction to Classical Chinese (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1984). Similar in conception, emphasis, and organization to his earlier book, but with a changed selection of passages, a 27% increase in characters covered to just over 900, and a shift from W-G to Pinyin + W-G in the vocabularies. Not quite as easy to use as the earlier edition, as Dawson has omitted all romanization of characters in the detailed grammatical analyses, but an excellent book nevertheless and strongly recommended.

Island Victory: The Battle of Kwajalein Atoll
Published in Paperback by Bison Bks Corp (December, 2001)
Authors: S. L. A. Marshall and Joseph G., III Dawson
Average review score:

A rare primary historical source
Island Victory: The Battle Of Kwajalein Atoll by Brigadier General S.L.A. Marshall (1900-1977) is a rare primary historical source, written by at-the-time Lieutenant Colonel S. L. A. Marshall at the time of the deadly Pacific fight in World War II. Marshall was a veteran of WW I who would later serve in Korea and Vietnam and become a brigadier general. When the Seventh Infantry Division battled the Japanese across Kwajalein Atoll in February 1944, Marshall was given the official task of creating a written record of the battle. In order to be as accurate as possible, he brought front-line soldiers to a group interview and taped their conversations in order to get as clear an idea as possible. Written accounts of war simply do not get any closer to the actions and feelings of those were there. Island Victory is a highly recommended, "must-read" book for those who study eye-witness WW II accounts, and a core title contribution to World War II studies academic reference collections.

Kindred Crimes
Published in Paperback by Crest (May, 1992)
Author: Janet Dawson
Average review score:

EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING
A great PI series. This book is on the edge of hard core without all the gore. The character development gives you an insight into the feelings of the book and the plot development keeps you wanting to read on and on. I met Janet Dawson at a booksigning a number of months ago. Bought this first book to try "one of these days". When I finally got around to trying it I could kick myself for waiting so long. It is wonderful. If you haven't tried it, for crying out loud, get it. Just don't do what I did and wait for awhile. Buy it, read it, NOW!!!
